23 days until I see this guy again!
Being apart is rough, but you can't argue with the holidays. H1 and I meet up once every three months or so. For such a long-distance relationship, I'd say that's pretty frequent, and trust me, I'm well aware how lucky we are to have this as an option.
Our first reunion was last October, in Napa. It was for a week, and we had spent around two and a half months apart by then. Meeting on the west coast is convenient for both of us, and Napa was an ideal choice. It's so beautiful in autumn (or any time of year, really) and there's so much to do around there.
I mean, we didn't do any of it, but it's there should one want to.
For having flown 12 hours, the amount of time we spent sitting by the hotel pool, chatting, snacking and drinking wine is a little embarrassing. We just honestly didn't want to do anything else, see anyone else, or even go anywhere else much. And that's okay. We were still working it out and seeing how this long-distance thing was going to work…and also talking. H1 and I are talkers. Half an hour on Skype every day, plus torrents of texts, doesn't actually cut it. We had a lot to talk about.
We did get out a few times, often coinciding with when we ran out of food. We ate lunch at Bouchon, one of our favourite restaurants, visited Mumm, one of our favourite wineries, drank milkshakes at Gott's Roadside Diner, one of our favourite diners...
Sensing a theme here?
We also ate at the Culinary Institute of America, which was phenomenal, and – amazingly – something new. Overall, though, we just had a wonderfully relaxing time.
This time (in 23 days!!!) won't be like that. We're getting more and more used to the status quo, and we're actually open to the idea of wearing more than togs and seeing other people now. It will still have everything that matters though…a car, a road, and my husband.
