My self-imposed shopping blackout* has come to an end, and I am free! Free to buy whatever I want. I don't want all that much, though. I mean, I do - once again, boutiques of New York, you have outdone yourselves in the 'try to make Hayley consume' stakes - but I don't buy clothes willy-nilly. This isn't something that's come about as a result of my shopping blackout, either - I've been this way for a few years now. Structured and sensible, carefully checking what I have, sending stuff to the cleaners and the tailor, considering the gaps in my wardrobe, and only then shopping. Call it boring, if you like, but it works for me.
Except that I have recently become absolutely fixated on getting a white peplum top this spring, and I don't think I'm going to be able to resist the urge. Every outfit I mentally devise seems to require the presence of a white peplum top, even though I've never owned a white peplum top before, and I've been successfully wearing clothes for over 29 years now.
I blame Ann Taylor, which put out a series of ads featuring this top a month or so ago, and instantly piqued my attention.
I've never shopped at Ann Taylor before, but this top is very relevant to my interests right now. However, it is a trend. I can't predict how long the peplum's going to be a stylish shape for, but I'm going to roll with 'not long'. In fact, it's probably already incredibly passé, seeing as I want one.
So maybe it would be better to spend less on it. Because it's a trend, it doesn't need to be super high quality. This one from H&M's new Conscious Collection is pretty nice too, and it's organic cotton.
That said, however, Aritzia's version is made of ponte, so it's almost certainly going to drape incredibly well.
And Dorothy Perkins has a really nice one also. Although it's also got the word 'Kardashians' on its site, which makes me want to give it exactly none of my money.
I am plagued with indecision, and I blame the shopping blackout. Maybe this will be the first spring in history that I just give up and wear nothing***.
*I'm aware it wasn't all that punitive. Also, I didn't include shoes, which...rookie mistake**.
**Or rookie BRILLIANCE. Your call.
***Except my bikini body's not ready yet! So absolutely not****!
****And of course, JOKES. So many jokes. 'Bikini body'. Eugh. I can't even...
