The weekend has ended is not NEARLY as cool as the weekend has landed. Noted and recorded. When the weekend was busy landing I was out with a friend, so no post…I'm not the type to blog at dinner, you see. Thankfully (?) I am the type to take a sneaky phone photo or two at dinner, especially when the food is beautiful.
This is Orphans Kitchen on Ponsonby Road. We shared trevally ceviche with shaved watermelon and avocado puree, lamb with aubergine and feijoa, and rye gnocchi with a poached egg, and everything was absolutely perfect. I'd been wanting to try this place for ages*, and am so very, very glad I finally did.
So Orphans Kitchen is most definitely recommended. The setting is beautiful too – we all know how important that is – and the crowd there are all also quite beautiful. I didn't take a picture of any of them though. You'll just have to take my word for it.
I then followed this auspicious start to the weekend with a gym visit, getting my hair done, attending my cousin's birthday barbecue, reading design magazines in the sun, going with a friend for coffee in the very cool neighbourhood of Kingsland, and buying household stuff**. A pretty close to perfect weekend, and an expensive one to boot (I'm looking at you, hair that can't manage to be a decent colour on its own).
And now it is Sunday evening and I need to ready myself for the work week. Hmmmm. A good time to look at the best of last week.
The best thing I read this week was: This piece on the language of racism. The whole Metiria Turei wears jackets thing was fascinating to me, in a supremely ugly way (and no, I'm not talking about the jacket). I was having trouble summing up exactly why it disgusted me so much. Maui Street's article has done the job for me.
The best thing I ate this week was: Um, I'm counting Friday night's Orphans Kitchen experience as the week. It was that. By far.
The best thing I did this week was: Get myself back into a regular gym routine. The holidays are over! And they've been over a while. It was time.
Hoping everyone else's weekend has been just as lovely as mine, and also a little cheaper. What were your bests?
*Ages meaning, since it appeared not too long ago. Amazing Auckland restaurants are popping up faster than I can keep up.
**YEAH household stuff. This is a very reliable indicator of rapid ageing, by the way.
